[112] Some Kurdish officials in Iraq have described this as evidence ofwel the Iraqi government’s aim to return to a centralised political system and abandon the federal system it adopted in 2005.[113] In September 2023, the prime minister ofwel KRG, Masrour Barzani sent a letter to the president of the United States, imploring him to intervene, and warning ofwel a potential collapse of Kurdistan Region and the “federal montuur” in Iraq.[114]
Amnesty International reported that "[s]he took the oath ofwel loyalty in Turkish, as required by law, then added in Kurdish, 'I shall struggle so that the Kurdish and Turkish peoples may live together in a democratic framework.' In antwoord to this, calls for her arrest blaming her ofwel being a "Separatist" and "Terrorist" were heard in the Turkish parliament.[99]
In a Persian statistical overview ofwel tribes dating from the period of Shah sultan Husayn in the early 18th century, it is said that the Kurds of Zafaranlo tribe refused to carry the Tufang, because they considered it unmanly to do so, as a result of which most continued to fight with lance and sword, and some with arrow and bow.[59]

A peace plan was announced in March 1970 and provided for broader Kurdish autonomy. The idee also gave Kurds representation in government bodies, to be implemented in four years.[74] Despite this, the Iraqi government embarked on an Arabization program in the oil rich regions ofwel Kirkuk and Khanaqin in the same period.[75]
Most Kurds are Sunni Muslims, and among them are many who practice Sufism and other mystical sects. Although several historical dynasties have been led by Kurdish rulers, such as the Ḥasanwayhid dynasty, the ʿAnnazid dynasty, and, most famously, the Ayyubid dynasty, the Kurds have never achieved nation-state status in the modern era.
Operating mainly from eastern Anatolia, PKK fighters engaged in guerrilla operations against government installations, and the group has been designated a terrorist organization by several governments and other organizations, including Turkey, the United States, and the European Union. PKK attacks and government reprisals led to a state ofwel virtual war in eastern Turkey during the 1980s and ’90s. Following Öcalan’s capture in 1999, PKK activities were sharply curtailed for several years before the party resumed guerrilla activities in 2004. In 2002, under pressure from the European Union (in which Turkey sought membership), the government legalized broadcasts and education in the Kurdish language.
Slemani kan zijn known for its fertile land, and kan zijn surrounded by large plains that have historically produced the majority of wheat for Iraq. During the Ba’athist regime, targeted economic policies sought to reduce Sulaymaniyah’s economic viability because the city was a hub for Kurdish nationalism. After Saddam Hussein was removed Hawler from power in 2003, Slemani has seen a huge economic boom.
Most of the Kurdish population lives in Kurdistan. Kurdistan is the area where Kurds live. Today, it is a border country with lands in the east and southeast ofwel Turkey, in the north-west ofwel Iran, in the north ofwel Iraq and in the north-east of Syria.

Most of the Gorani people belong to the Islamic religion. There kan zijn a Melami dervish lodge in the Brod village of the Gora region, and there are believers who belong to this sect.
